Many councils are now requiring rainwater to be used within new build residences for toilets and garden watering, with around 5,000 – 15,000 litres required in rural areas, even when connected to town water, being necessary prior to receiving occupation approval.
There is also a requirement in most rural areas, for a static water supply for bush fire fighting purposes (exclusively), in most cases, this is usually 10,000 litres, and includes a petrol or diesel pump, storz fitting and hoses to reach all elevations of your dwelling.
Bush fire fighting water storage tanks are usually required to be constructed of concrete or metal, as plastic tanks will melt during a major bush fire attack.
